Cooked Salmon
You can go for either fresh or cooked salmon. Although indulging in fresh one guarantees robust and increased flavor. But if you are running short on time then this cooked salmon is a great option.
Canola Oil
To keep your fat intake in check, we’ll use vegetable oil instead of butter or animal fat.
Veggies
We will add fresh cilantro, and red onions to give a fresh and perfect crunch to our patties.
Binders
The almond flour that is usually used for coating patties and eggs acts as great binders.
Chinese Five-spice Powder
Want some heat? This Chinese five-spice powder consisting of star anise, cloves, fennel seeds, Sichuan peppercorn, and cinnamon imparts a strong flavor.
Low Sodium Soy Sauce

Serving Suggestions With Salmon Cakes
Salmon cakes are a great appetizer and can be eaten alone, but if you want to pair it up with any of the side meals, here’s we have some recommendations for you:
- Salmon cakes goes perfectly well with fresh, bright salad with a light dressing. You can serve it along chopped salad with avocado dressing, and Japanese spinach salad.
- Serve it along with any of your favorite green veggies salads whether it’s Kale, Spinach, or bok choy if you want some Asian touch.
- You can even serve it with corn salsa chipotle. Salmon with corn? It may not be your typical combo but believe me it tastes good or maybe I’m a bit biased with sweet corn.
- Your salmon cakes would even taste good with any of your favorite dipping or tartar sauce.
- I’m particularly down for wholesome meals so serving along with grain bowls or rice bowls can be your best shot at having lunches and dinners to get you throughout the week.
- You can even serve it with Quinoa Bowl or some roasted veggies.
These are my top picks, you can choose any other of your liking but I’ll recommend you choose which needs less prep time and is healthy.
How To Store Salmon Cakes?
- Wondering if there’s any appropriate way to store your salmon cakes? Yes, you can easily store your leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator and it will stay fine for 3-4 days.
- If your temperature remains consistent, storing in the refrigerator will stretch to a whole week without any change in taste.
- Planning to freeze these patties? That’s definitely possible, but make sure these salmon cakes are properly cooled before you freeze them. Make sure you are putting butter paper in between patties to avoid sticking.
- Reheating can be the biggest pet peeve when it comes to salmon cakes, so just keep a wet paper towel on the patties when you reheat in the microwave or just splash some water on the top of refrigerated/frozen patties.
