Nothing is better than having a refreshing drink that lifts up your mood just with merely its aesthetics., right? The Lambrusco spritz got hype due to its unique formulation where the spritz originally prosecco is replaced with Lambrusco wine. The base of this cocktail includes Amaro, orange juice, and Lambrusco and you can garnish it with olives, and orange slices, and rub some sugar mix over the rim of the glass.
To give an extra kick of a pleasant appearance, top up with an orange wheel or cranberries. Moreover, I love it because it’s so easy to do the batching in this recipe when you make all of it in the pitcher. Customize the formulation depending on the amount of spritz you want to prepare.
So buckle up and immerse yourself in making this delicious Lambrusco spritz cocktail in your next festivity, along with some substitution ideas, serving suggestions, and some handy notes.
What is Lambrusco Spritz?
As a non-Italian, I’m just amazed at how pretty this cocktail looks and always consider it ethereal. But what it is? Lambrusco is a sparkling wine in red color most likely found in the Bologna region in north Italy. But remember, it won’t be bubbly despite it being sparkling and a could be either deep red or dark rosè in color.
Lambrusco spritz, however, contains prosecco and the additional alcohol content with the sweetness of fruit juices that just elevates the flavor profile.
If you prefer dark colors, go for Lambrusco which is darker in color and gives berry colored cocktail.
Not everyone fan of bitter alcohol bevvies, so choosing the sweeter Lambrusco will entirely change the flavor game.
Read the labels while purchasing Lambrusco, as I used Dolce in this recipe here. Don’t get too thrifty with this cocktail, some of you will prefer to purchase the cheapest Lambrusco placed on the shelf which won’t turn out well. Instead, go for an average-priced one so that taste won’t be influenced.

- When I serve it on Christmas, it literally becomes the star recipe, as made up of seasonal fruits and a perfect blast of flavor.
- If you prefer having non-red wine, then believe me you will be hooked to this vibrant cocktail.
- It doesn’t require any fancy ingredients, just the typical bar ingredients we usually use in our drinks will suffice. No need for an urgent rush to Mart, whoosh a huge relief!
- It can be prepared within minutes. Just mix up rim ingredients, pour the liquor and juice and the Lambrusco spritz is ready!
- If you are vegan, gluten intolerant, and prefer having non-dairy ingredients, then there’s good news for you the recipe contains none of them, literally a treat for vegans.

Ingredients In Lambrusco Spritz
You know what, what’s making the Lambrusco spritz the star of our table? It’s ingredients list includes:
Lambrusco: The star ingredient of this famed cocktail, it’s the sparkling red wine usually found in the Bologna region of Italy and can be easily found in the chilled liquor section.
Amaro: It’s the liquor, you can choose Aperol or Campari as well which goes well with our requirement of a bitter aperitivo.
Orange Juice: Another main ingredient, our Lambrusco spritz is never complete without the tangy orange juice. For an elevated taste, go for blood orange juice.
Sparkling Water: Instead of going for a typical club soda, I’ll go for orange-flavored sparkling water in my recipe.
Toppings: I’ve added olives and orange slices but you can add grapefruit slices and frozen cranberries as well for a taste uplift.
Variations In Lambrusco Spritz
A little bit of alterations here and there doesn’t hurt, right? You can bring some changes into the Lambrusco spritz that elevate the flavor profile and align best with your requirements.
- You can substitute it with any other sparkling liquor instead of Amaro. Serve it with vodka, whiskey, Aperol, bourbon, gin, or any other Italian digestif.
- You can bring variations in juice. Lambrusco spritz tastes absolutely delicious when you add pomegranate juice, grapefruit juice, or cranberry juice.
- In place of flavored sparkling wine or just club soda, you can use prosecco but that completely alters the concept of Lambrusco spritz.
- You can add a tinge of sweetness to the Lambrusco spritz by adding a dash of honey or maple syrup.
- But still, the variations don’t end here you can add many more other stuff but don’t ruin the actual concept of the cocktail.
Servings With Lambrusco Spritz
Shouldn’t it be nice to prep your stomach before devouring a main course meal? But still, it can be consumed anytime despite the occasion. Serve it in a festivity or in a winter appetizer.
You can serve it along with any meal, dessert or baked item. I love pairing it up with:
- I made Halloween Oreos last year and served this cocktail with them, and trust me it was hella divine.
- It will taste perfect with Shortbread Cookies or breads, I served it up with yogurt bread and some veggie sides.
- What’s a better combo than salads and cocktails? I served Lambrusco spritz with Italian grinder salad once and everyone loved it.
- I liked it most with rotel tacos, a chilled cocktail, and meat-filled tacos.
FAQs on Lambrusco Spritz
The fizzy Lambrusco wines are usually frothy and bubbly and tend to be either sweet or bone dry in taste. However, due to their formulation, they usually give flavor notes of strawberries, citrus zest, violets, cherries, and blackberry jams. A perfect blend of sweetness and tanginess!
