3-Minutes Sweet & Spicy Chipotle Lime Sauce

3-Minutes Sweet & Spicy Chipotle Lime Sauce

Are you a sauce person? Well, I am as I love pretty everything dipped in creamy sauces. However, I might not be a Mayo person, but spice it up and I’m a total sucker. A Chipotle Lime sauce when drizzled over my favorite dishes and if used as a dipping make the experience hellish.

I’m quite an experimentative with my dippings and once I tried it at a dinner party and served it as a dipping sauce with tacos. My friends loved it and kept asking me about the recipe. I wasn’t even sure how this glow-up in Mayo turned out so well.

So I tried recalling the ingredients and finally came up with this delicious sauce which you can serve with pretty much everything.

The smoky, zesty flavor combos will stay on your tongue much longer after you are finished with your meal. I’m not particularly a fan of zesty taste, but this blast of smokiness and spiciness is worth every lick.

The good thing is it can be paired up with literally everything whether it’s shrimp, tacos, burritos, sandwiches, salads, or any meat entree. It can be made within a few minutes by throwing these basic ingredients. It’s sticky with the right notes of sweetness and spiciness and can be brushed over meat and cooked to get a nice sticky glaze.

Hang on with me to learn the full recipe for chipotle lime sauce, how to pair it up, variation suggestions, storage ideas, and some handy tips.

Why Will You Love Chipotle Lime Sauce?

I typically skip on sauces but what’s making this one an absolute delight? There are reasons considering its preparation, flavor, and ease that will make you fall head over heels for this delicious sauce.

Plant-based Creamy Texture: Yes you have read right, this one doesn’t use any animal-based ingredients, use dairy-free yogurt and mix it with mayonnaise. The creaminess will double the flavor become tenfold better.

A Blast of Flavor: As it’s a chipotle lime sauce, the smoky bold flavor, and zesty flavor are top-notch and is worth every inch. I don’t think it will last an hour once you make it to your home, because it doesn’t at my home, for certain!

Convenience: I avoid sauces and aiolis because sometimes they take quite some time, as it is hell tough to make it up in a chaotic dinner prep. But this one can come together under 5 minutes and is super easy to make. No side hustle!

Customization: There’s nothing better than making up recipes that you can customize as per your liking. You can swap up ingredients in this sauce. Like swap up mayonnaise with sour cream and even adjust the level of spiciness by increasing or decreasing the amount of chipotle peppers.

Besides, you can bring variations to tailor this sauce as per your preferences. It even makes a nice gift if you are invited for a meal get-together.

Ingredients In Chipotle Lime Sauce

The ingredients are what make this aioli a treat. Make sure you add the right amount of ingredients and in optimal quality.

Mayonnaise: Want creaminess? Here’s your cue to use vegan mayonnaise which keeps the chipotle lime sauce creamy and plant-based. If Mayo doesn’t suit you, you can also add sour cream to get the tanginess.

Greek Yogurt: Lightening up the recipe is too easy just add up the plain Greek yogurt and the creamy, tangy aioli is ready!

Chipotle Peppers: The star ingredient of our recipe, that’s giving it the heat. You can buy fresh chipotle peppers or canned ones. Mind it, the more pepper you add, the spicier it will be.

Honey: To level down the spices, you can add honey which will balance out the flavor and the main ingredients making this sauce sticky all the same. If you want to make it more exotic, add agave syrup.

Lime Juice: You may use freshly squeezed lime or the bottled ones that are available in the market. These are the noted ingredients, you can add on and remove by tailoring them to your requirements.

Variations In Chipotle Lime Sauce

You can elevate the flavor of this easy sauce by adding some variations and substitutions. Chipotle lime sauce is perfect as it is, but some extra effort doesn’t hurt, does it?

  • If mayonnaise isn’t on your radar, but you want the creaminess. Simply bring the sour cream to the table and use it in exact amounts as mayo.
  • The herbal flavor is possible if you add cilantro, you can add it along with a handful of other fresh herbs.
  • The amount of chipotle peppers makes a huge difference in the flavor profile. If you like extra heat, add more peppers.

Expert Tips

You might be a master of your own, but I believe you will appreciate having some expert tips. (Wink, wink!)

  • Zest the lime before you squeeze it up for the juice, as the intact lime is easier to zest.
  • Add the chipotle peppers one by one not all at once, as this way you can better adjust the heat.
  • To set and thicken up the sauce, refrigerate it for at least 30 minutes before you serve it. Even the taste gets better once chilled.
  • If you want to make a dressing out of chipotle lime sauce, just add some water to thin out the consistency and stir well until well combined.
  • In case, your sauce has thickened up too much for your liking you can thin it out by adding 2-3 tablespoons of milk.

Serving Suggestions

The chipotle lime sauce can be paired well with almost everything and it just enhances the overall appeal. Here are some of my favorite serving suggestions:

  • Pair up this delicious aioli with my favorite rotel tacos, you can even pair it up with roasted veggie and black bean tacos.
  • It acts as a phenomenal dressing for recipes like Chimichurri Shrimp Tacos or fish tacos.
  • I’m a fan of serving this chipotle lime sauce with blackened chicken or roasted chicken breast.
  • Made onion rings? Double the fun by serving it as a dipping.
  • It even goes well with sandwiches where you can use it as a spread along with Cajun Turkey breast cut.
  • One of my favorite ways of using it with meat entrée is to brush it up on top of grilled chicken, and let it cook for 5 minutes which will make the sauce get sticky.

How To Store Chipotle Lime Sauce?

How to store leftovers? Although I don’t particularly fancy storing up sauces and aiolis. But good thing, that chipotle lime sauce can be stored effectively if kept in an airtight jar, spaghetti jar, or Mason jar.

  • Store it in the refrigerator and it will stay fine for approximately 5 days or can be extended to 3 weeks.
  • Can you freeze the sauce? No, please don’t do this, as it will ruin the texture because it contains sour cream and mayonnaise which separates out while thawing.
