Ingredients Notes In Blue Runner Red Beans

There are several noted ingredients used in the preparation of blue runner red beans which have a profound impact on the overall flavor profile.

Bacon: It’s cured meat from pork belly, but it can also be taken from the beef belly or maybe a round cut of brisket and is called beef bacon. I love beef bacon so I’ll be using that in my recipe.

Sausage: I have used spicy smoked sausage in my recipe, but you can choose other types of sausages considering your dietary preferences. Turkey or chicken sausages can also be used as a leaner source of meat. Abandoning a non-vegan diet? You will find some vegan sausages but I’ll recommend you choose the spicier ones.

Seasoning Blend: Although I’m adding fresh chopped,  onions, celery, and bell pepper you can buy a frozen seasoning blend as well which contains this but isn’t particularly fresh infact are preserved.

Dried Parsley & Basil: I have added dried basil and parsley powder but if you want to substitute it with fresh, increase the quantity threefold.

Garlic: I prefer adding fresh garlic but if you like you can use dry garlic as well. For each clove add 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder. It’s easier to balance the flavor when in powdered form as the fresh garlic is more potent.

Cajun Seasoning: Another significant ingredient  contributing profoundly to the taste, I’ll suggest you buy from ‘Slap Ya Mama‘ or ‘Tony Chachere’s.’

Blue Runner Red Beans: You can buy one can of blue runner red beans along with one can of undrained kidney beans and pinto beans with bacon. All these can be bought online and available in local marts.

You can add any other side meal and choose the ingredients accordingly,  it’s usually served with rice or sometimes meat so make that according to your preference, and the ingredient profile will vary accordingly.
